The Apprentice can equip Staffs and Apprentice Swords. Both types of equipment use the standard Apprentice projectile attacks. As with all weapons and armors, currently the maximum upgrade levels an individual weapon can have is 404 and the maximum upgradeable stat an item can reach is 600 (with armors reaching 840 with the 40% ≥ ultimate armor set bonus).
The actual weapon size of both Squire and Monk weapons scales with their attack range, although weapon size is mostly cosmetic for Apprentice and Huntress weapons (however the ability to fire weapons from close range is affected).
A DPS weapon for the Apprentice should focus on additional projectiles and either the weapons base damage or elemental damage. A high charge rate can also be desired to allow burst attacks which can be stronger than the normal rate of fire (might not be the case if auto-fire is available).
Random Drops
There are many names for each graphical type of an Apprentice staff. All staves have the same type of attack, projectiles and AoE blast, but stats vary. Those stats are the determining factor of the strength of the staff; the staff's individual look is irrelevant to its strength.

Upgrade Notes
When upgrading for an apprentice a key factor is whether or not you wan't his stats to be in DPS(Damage Per Second) or Tower Apprentice(Someone who relies on their towers to carry them through the map) So weapons specialize in either in there Physical Damage and Elemental Damage. Or the towers AOE(Area Of Effect) ROF(Rate Of Fire)DPS(Damage Per Second)DHS(Defense Health Bonus).
Physical Damage
Physical damage will increase by approximately 15% each level (with rounding errors). If the amount increased will be greater than 48, the damage amount added will be capped at 48.
Elemental Damage
Elemental damage will increase by approximately 20% each level (with rounding errors). If the amount increased will be greater than 273.5, the damage amount added will be capped at 273.5.
