The Hermit is an additional DLC hero class released on 29 June 2023.
He is a solitary figure who has studied the elements of nature for many years. As a result, he has acquired great expertise in channeling the Poison element to slowly wither away his foes.
The Hermit Hero DLC is available for purchase on Steam for $4.99 USD. This DLC is not included in the Ultimate Edition bundle.
Defenses[]
The Hermit can summon plant and fungal defenses which deal generic damage and/or poison damage. Most of them also come with support capabilities to either cripple foes or buff and/or heal allies.
- Seed Bomb Tower (40 Mana, 4 DU) - A rooted slow-firing plant monster that shoots exploding seeds, dealing generic damage on-hit followed by 5 potent ticks of poison damage overtime. This poison damage can stack up to 10 times. Enemies that get too close also take non-stacking poison damage.
- Web Wall (20 Mana, 2-4 DU) - Webs enemies on contact, reducing their speed and resistances based on the builder's defense stats. Despite its name, this "wall" has no collision and cannot be attacked.
- Nature Pylon (80 Mana, 5 DU) - A physical defense that buffs the resistance and range of nearby defenses, as well as the casting and movement speeds of nearby heroes. The latter two buffs persist for a few seconds after exiting the pylon's range. This buff tower ignores Buff Beams and does not stack with said beams.
- Mushroom Spore Tower (120 Mana, 7 DU) - Sprays infectious spores at enemies. The viral infection damages all enemies affected and weakens their resistances.
- Forest Golem (300 Mana, 8 DU) - A bulky melee-oriented ally that additionally throws large hard-hitting rocks on occasion and heals nearby allies and defenses.
Abilities[]
- Whirlwind (Secondary Attack, 4-second hidden cooldown) - A melee spin attack that lasts as long as the attack button is held down. Has a short hidden cooldown.
- Thorn Shot (60 Mana, 6-second cooldown) - Shoots 5 piercing thorns in an erratic spread. Deals generic damage on-hit followed by 5 potent ticks of poison damage overtime.
- Nature's Gift (30 Mana to Activate, 22-second cooldown) - While active, adds 25% poison damage to the Hermit's attacks, regenerates health and buffs his movement speed. Drains increasingly more mana overtime to upkeep.

- The Hermit in DD1 is the first:
- Hero and paid DLC and to be released in over a decade.
- Hero with an activated ability that deals or allows them to deal poison damage.
- Polearm wielder who cannot use the weapon's ranged attack.
- Original hero who reuses the Barbarian's voice, albeit adjusted to a lower pitch.
- He is the third nature-themed hero introduced to the Dungeon Defenders franchise, following the Dryad in Dungeon Defenders II and the Warden in Dungeon Defenders: Awakened.
- He has the least amount of alternate color presets of all heroes at 4, one for every environmental season.
