Kobolds are one-shot attempts to kill a Hero or destroy a defense. You'll know they are near by their scream (Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!) until they explode. If you can avoid their explosion, it is best to do so. If you hear a scream, you can often drop down a level and let their short fuse kill themselves.The Huntress can use invisibility to avoid them.
The Squire can use Block to reduce the amount of damage from the Kobold.
An effective strategy for dealing with Kobolds is to place Ensnare Auras in front of your defenses, which causes incoming Kobolds to slow down dramatically and gives your towers a much longer period of time to kill them before they reach your defenses.
