The Summit is the final level of the classic campaign. The Ancient Dragon is fought here.

Two or more players are recommended for this map, especially on Insane, Nightmare or Ascension difficulty.

Gameplay[]

Located near the center of the map are three Eternia Crystals to defend. The upper level with two cores provides a large open area to place towers using the generous 150 Defense Units available; however Build Phase timers are strict when present. These cores get far more enemy traffic than the one lower crystal. Two enemy spawn doors, every Wyvern spawn point and the dedicated Ogre entrance all cover the southern half of the map. On Nightmare and Ascension, some of the Goblin Copters will attempt to deploy their Ogres closer to the lower crystal. Non-Copter Ogres may sometimes appear from either set of spawn doors to the north.

Nearly the entire map is fortified by a back wall and four sets of ramparts which define its corners; torches color code each one.

Boss Fight[]

Main Article: Ancient Dragon

The Ancient Dragon flies around the map's outermost perimeter. Occasionally, he turns to face the battlefield to shoot fireballs at heroes and defenses. These projectiles cannot be blocked by Reflection Beams. Players can use one of the four ballistas on The Summit's ramparts to shoot down the dragon, which leads him to perch over one of three ledges. The boss takes off again after some time or taking a sufficient amount of damage. The imbedded crest between the two higher up cores will glow orange when the dragon is near a ballista. Touching it will teleport the player to said ballista.

Ending[]

When the Ancient Dragon is defeated, a cutscene will play automatically. One of the scenes presented is determined by which hero class landed the final blow on the dragon.

After the cutscene ends and the original game credits roll, players do not get the choice to wander The Summit after their victory. The host's only option is to return back to the tavern. A similar scenario to this happens after clearing Sky City (Campaign) and the Crystalline Dimension.

In Other Dungeon Defenders Games[]

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened colors The Summit in a dominant, but not overwhelming violet/purple hue, fitting for it being the original finale. The colored torches distinguishing each quadrant of ramparts are more visible. Wyverns never spawn in the northern half of the map. The Goblin Copters only deploy their Ogres manually on the upper core platform, between the two southside staircases. The ballistas used to shoot down the Ancient Dragon fire instantesouly, the moment a player triggers one.

Dungeon Defenders Redux[]

The Summit in Redux has a secret on Ascension that turns the Ancient Dragon into a stronger artificial variant if solved before he spawns. If this dragon is defeated, players are rewarded an additional pair of Gargoyle Horns and the Dragon Slayer 2000, a special Ultimate++ Huntress weapon with fixed stats akin to an event-only item. This cannon is only given once per account, similar to the Ultimate Crystalline Defender shield.

The dragon's fireballs can be blocked with Reflection Beams and deal massive damage back at the boss.

The map's secret involves the six gargoyle statues, two beside each of the dragon's three landing zones. A player must activate them in a specific order; any mistake will reset every statue and return the message, "That's not right..." Solving the puzzle is an east-to-west, north-to-south procedure, starting at the northern ledge.

Notes/Tips[]

  • The dragon will target the closest defenses to him when shooting fireballs. Therefore, cheap sacrificial defenses like Magic Blockades can be placed along the front of the the castle tops to redirect them away from other, more important defenses.
  • On difficulties below Nightmare, neither Ogres or Wyverns will spawn during the boss fight. It might be helpful to sell defenses specifically intended to deal with these foes, freeing up DU to allocate more towards the battle.
  • No Cyclopes spawn on Ascension Campaign.

Mobile[]

  • The pet Guardians and Animi are only available as challenge rewards on mobile, and cannot be obtained from completing this map's Campaign.
  • After killing the boss, Allister and a Squire Animus pet are always rewarded.
